Heart of the Story.
The Iceni were joined by other tribes from near Eat Anglia who also didn't like the Roman rule, creating an army of 30,000 men and together they managed to defeat the Romans in multiple areas before eventually being beaten. Boudicca killed herself after her defeat in a battle led by Paulinus. Unable to bear the shame and further embarrassment, she drank poison in order to avoid becoming a slave. Although the exact location of her death and the battles took place is unknown we know that the battles took place in Colchester, St Albans, London and it was at the Battle of Walting Street where Boudicca was finally taken down. It is thought that her army was defeated because they became too confident after their prior victories.
"Boudicca's warriors successfully defeated the Roman Ninth Legion and destroyed the capital of Roman Britain, then at Colchester. They went on to destroy London and Verulamium (St Albans). Thousands were killed. Finally. Boudicca was defeated by a Roman army led by Paulinus. Many Britons were killed and Boudicca is thought to have poisoned herself to avoid capture. The site of the battle, and of Boudicca's death are unknown. |
